The event was organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper, with the participation of representatives from Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), Ho Chi Minh city Department of Tourism, Ministry of Finance’s General Department of Taxation, General Department of Customs’ Department of Taxation-Exports and Imports, travel companies, and policy researchers.

Nearly 200 delegates debated the reality and difficulties of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh city in particular, as tax refund for tourists has not carried out comprehensively.

At the seminar, the delegates affirmed VAT refund not only brings benefits for foreigners but also stimulates consumption, contributing to the economic development of the country. Currently, many countries consider VAT refund for tourists as a tool for national economic development.

Assoc. Prof Pham Trung Luong, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Tourism Education Association said that so far, tax refund procedures for tourists are still complicated and there is no unification among refunded goods. In addition, the guidance for tax refund procedures, for both businesses and tourists, has not received the proper concern./.
