(CPV) – Business Sweden, in colloboration with Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), has organized a seminar on Vietnam’s coal exploitation and mineral industry, in Quang Ninh.

The event attracted over 50 representatives from local government, industry leaders, experts and media in an open, multi-dimensioned dialogue on the industry’s strategy and development.

The seminar aims to exchange the strategy and development of the Vietnam’s coal exploitation industry.

At the seminar, Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam, Mrs. Camilla Mellander noted that “Given Vietnam’s increasing need for innovative technology and solutions, Sweden has a lot to offer as one of largest mining nations in Europe. Further, the strong business presence of Swedish mining companies provides local businesses with fantastic opportunities for beneficial partnerships.”

Currently, most of the industry’s production and development is in QuangNinh. Business Sweden and the University of Mining and Geology report that surface mining still plays an essential role in this area. However this type of mining can have its problems, such as untreated waste water, waste dumps, changing terrain etc… Therefore, if the industry is to develop sustainably, Vinacomin and other companies will focus more on underground mining in the future.

The event was an opportunity to promote the cutting edge equipment, products and solutions offered by Swedish companies to the local market. It was also a demonstration of “sustainable practice” and how it can resolve the challenges of both today and tomorrow. This aligns with the Government of Vietnam’s policies to encourage investment in higher quality equipment for improving business environment and practice.

“These solutions and equipment provided by Sweden are not only long-lasting, but also proven innovative, reliable and profitable in the Asia Pacific region and word-wide”, stressed Peter Cederholm, Trade Commissioner at Business Sweden.

Leading companies in Sweden such as ABB, Scania and Swedish Export Credit Corporation (SEK) participated in the event. Each of these expressed a readiness and capacity to work in fruitful, long-term partnerships with Vietnamese companies and relevant authorities to build a more advanced mining industry in the country./.
