Since 2010, Van Don district of the northern province of Quang Ninh province has focused on building its infrastructure to be more synchronous and modern.

Roads are upgraded and expanded to serve people’s travel needs

With a total investment capital of over VND1.8 trillion, the district has built 18 traffic constructions, 8 water reservoirs, 9 channel systems and 7 dyke systems. In addition, 18 of 27 schools have received investment to raise them to meet national standards, while 35 of 72 cultural houses have also been upgraded.
Besides, the district has actively improved rural roads to serve people’s travel. So far it has encouraged people donate over 45,000 square metres of land, over 10,000 working days and VND4 billion to build rural roads.
Furthermore, priority has also been given to traffic infrastructure, with the highest profile project being the upgrade of the trans-island road from Minh Chau to Quan Lan, which has a length of over 15 kilometres and a total capital of VND278 billion.
Projects to link infrastructure have also been increased, including upgrading the national road 4B to the Van Don Economic Zone, expanding Cai Rong port, upgrading main roads, the Ngoc Vung trans-island road and bringing power to island communes.
To satisfy the demand for agricultural production and water for islanders, the district has upgraded 50% of lakes, dams and channels, creating 26 reservoirs and dams which provide 2.8 million cubic metres.
Meanwhile, urban infrastructure has been developed rapidly, creating an impetus for socio-economic development. The district is carrying out the construction of the Ha Long communal resettlement region on an area of 56 hectares, while preparing to invest in other resettlement areas in Binh Dan, Doan Ket and Quan Lan communes./.
