According to department, in the first quarter, 11 provinces and cities reported export turnover of USD1 billion or more, including: Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Long An, Tay Ninh, Ho Chi Minh city and Thai Nguyen.
Compared to the same period in 2019, the number of provinces and cities achieving billion-dollar export turnover increased by 1, that was Tay Ninh with USD1,094 billion, an increase of 9.8%, equivalent to an additional nearly USD100 million.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh city remained the country’s leading export locality with the value of USD10.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 14.6%.
The southern hub alone accounted for 16.6% of the country's total export turnover in the first quarter.
Notably, while most localities had higher export turnover compared to the same period last year, Hanoi’s and Thai Nguyen’s declined.
In particular, Thai Nguyen saw a sharp reduction of more than USD400 million, from USD7.362 billion last year to USD6.951 billion.
Meanwhile, Hanoi’s export turnover this first quarter was at USD3.15 billion, a reduction of USD200 million compared to the same period last year.
Hai Phong and Bac Ninh are two localities with impressive increases in export turnover, at USD3.922 billion, a year-on-year increase of nearly USD1.05 billion; and USD8.06 billion, a year-on-year increase of over USD450 million, respectively.
At nearly USD49.35 billion, the export turnover of these 11 localities accounted for 78% of the country’s total export turnover in the first quarter./.
