The Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that it has received a document from the GACC notifying the results of the review of the remedial dossiers of the planting area codes and facilities that took the January 2023 online test.

As a result, 47 of 51 growing areas and 18 packing facilities met the requirements and were granted codes by the GACC.

So far, Vietnam has 293 growing areas and 115 packing facilities that have been granted official export codes by China to this market.

In addition, the Plant Protection Department is working with the GACC to agree on the schedule of the next online inspection for about 400 growing areas and 60 durian packing facilities that send products to China.

After agreeing on the inspection schedule and content, the Plant Protection Department will notify localities to proactively prepare and coordinate with the Department and the GACC to implement the Chinese agency’s plan.

Vietnam’s export of vegetables and fruits in 2022 reached USD3.34 billion, of which, export of fresh and frozen vegetables reached USD2.32 billion; and processed vegetables and fruits reached USD1.014 billion.

China is the largest export market for Vietnam's fruit and vegetable industry, accounting for about 55% of total export turnover. This is also the largest consumption address for durian, contributing to increasing durian export revenue last year to USD420 million.

The Protocol signed by the two sides in July 2022 paved the way for the valuable fruits to rapidly increase export turnover. The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit) forecasts that durian will soon bring in export turnover of USD1 billion.

According to GACC statistics, in 2022, China spent about USD4 billion to import durian. In which, Thailand was the largest supplier with USD3.85 billion, accounting for about 96% of China's durian import turnover.

Vietnam's durian exports to China have to compete fiercely with Thai products./.
