Vietjet and US group sign aircraft sponsorship worth USD550 million

Vietjet Airlines and major US financial group Carlyle signed an aircraft sponsorship agreement worth USD550 million on the occasion of US President Joe Biden's official visit to Vietnam.

Carlyle Aviation Partners Company, a member of the Carlyle Group, will provide finance for the Boeing 737 Max aircraft series under the order of 200 aircraft for Vietjet from Boeing. This was an important aircraft order and one of the largest commercial contracts between Vietnam and the US so far, making an important contribution to the trade balance.

Mr. Robert Korn, Chairman of Carlyle Aviation Partners, said that Carlyle Aviation Partners is a long-term strategic partner of Vietjet.

The first aircraft of the order will be delivered to Thai Vietjet, an airline founded by Vietjet and currently one of the leading airlines in Thailand with the Vietjet brand and image loved by people in the region.

During the official visit of US President Joe Biden to Vietnam, Vietjet and Boeing agreed on the program to hand over the first aircraft to Vietjet according to the order of 200 B737 Max aircraft. The order, worth more than USD25 billion, will be implemented over the next 5 years with the first 12 aircraft delivered in 2024.
