Vietnam invests more than USD316 million abroad in 5 months

According to the Foreign Investment Agency, 20 countries and territories received investment from Vietnam in the first 5 months of 2023, totalling nearly USD316.4 million (equivalent to 93.5% over the same period).

Of which, 47 projects were granted new investment registration certificates, with a total registered capital of more than USD142.7 million (equivalent to 48.6% over the same period); There were 16 projects with total investment capital adjustment increasing by nearly USD173.7 million (nearly 3.9 times higher than the same period).
Vietnamese investors have invested abroad in 13 industries; in which, wholesale and retail led the capital with 15 new investment projects and 5 capital adjustments, with a total registered investment capital of nearly USD147.7 million, accounting for nearly 46.7% of total registered investment capital abroad. The information and communication industry ranked second with more than USD108.5 million, accounting for 34.3%; followed by the banking and finance sectors; agriculture, forestry and fishery.
In the first 5 months of 2023, there were 20 countries and territories receiving investment from Vietnam. Leading the way was Canada with 1 new investment project and 1 capital adjustment project, with the total registered investment capital of more than USD150.2 million, accounting for 47.5% of the total investment capital. Next was Singapore, Laos and Cuba.
According to the Foreign Investment Agency, as of May 20, Vietnam had 1,648 valid overseas investment projects with a total investment capital of nearly USD22.1 billion; of which, there are 141 projects of state-owned enterprises, with a total investment capital of nearly USD11.67 billion, accounting for nearly 52.8% of the total investment capital of the country.
Vietnam's investment abroad focuses most on the mining industry (31.5%); and agriculture, forestry and fishery (15.6%). The areas receiving the most investment from Vietnam are Laos (24.4%); Cambodia (13.3%); and Venezuela (8.3%)./.
