According to the representative of the Vietnam Trade Office in the UK, the superior quality of Ri6 durian, plus the preferential tax exemption for imports to the UK thanks to the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA), have helped Vietnamese durians have a competitive advantage in the UK market over durians from other countries.
Previously, many specialty fruits of Vietnam have been present in the UK market such as lychee, red grapefruit and pomelo and oranges.
This presence shows the remarkable progress of Vietnamese fruit producers and exporters as the fruits meet Global Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) product quality and production process standards.
Mr. Thai Tran, CEO of TT Meridian Ltd (UK), emphasized that Ri6 durian is one of the most famous specialty varieties in the Mekong Delta. Therefore, importers are very confident about the quality of the product and expect the market to respond well, thereby preparing for larger shipments.
Starting a durian business is considered one of the steps for TT Meridian Ltd to introduce leading Vietnamese products to the UK in the near future.
Vietnamese agricultural product importers have a competitive advantage in the UK market thanks to the exemption from import tax under UKVFTA as well as the quality of agricultural products./.
