Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will make a week-long trip to Vietnam from February 28th, their first visit to the Southeast Asian country.

The visit is made at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse.
In Vietnam, the Imperial Couple will meet with top officials from the Party and the Government, and lay flowers at the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum.
In Hanoi, as scheduled, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko will visit the Temple of Literature and the Zoological Museum of the Vietnam National University, VNU-Hanoi.
On March 3rd, the Japanese Emperor and Empress will move to Central Hue city. They will visit Hue Royal Palace and enjoy Hue royal imperial music, and visit Phan Boi Chau memorial house as well.
Vietnam and Japan established diplomatic ties in 1973. The visit by Japanese Emperor Akihito is after the official visit by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to Vietnam in mid-January./.
