Russian expert appreciates effective Vietnam - Russia cooperation at UN

So said Dr. Ivan Nikolaievich Timofeev, Director of Programmes at the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), about the cooperation between Vietnam and Russia at the UN, on the occasion of Vietnam’s taking the position of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council (UNSC) term 2020-2021. 

According to Dr. Timofeev, Vietnam becoming a non-permanent member at the UNSC for 2020-2021 tenure is a good chance for the Southeast Asian country to contribute to the UNSC agenda on issues that Vietnam considers priority to the country, the region and the world. 

He expressed his belief that Vietnam’s proposals and visions on global issues will receive support from Russia and the UNSC.

To strengthen the cooperation between Vietnam and Russia in the Asia-Pacific region, Dr. Ivan Timofeev said that the two countries need to deepen the cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and Vietnam, as Vietnam is the first country to sign a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union. In addition, it is necessary to increase bilateral trade, because Vietnam is a very dynamic developing economy, while Russia is also a big country, according to the Russian expert.

Regarding educational cooperation, Dr. Timofeev said that Russian education has a lot of potential to attract more Vietnamese students, but it needs to create easier conditions for Vietnamese students to graduate from Russian universities and to stay and work in Russia.

The Russian expert added that to attract more Vietnamese tourists to Russia, it is necessary to have more Vietnamese-speaking tour guides and special tours must be studied and applied for Vietnamese tourists, especially those to sites associated with the Soviet Union era./.
