The American citizen said that she flew from Ho Chi Minh city to Hanoi for donating plasma right after having access to the plasma donation program.
Earlier, in March, she returned to Vietnam after a trip to Thailand, was infected with COVID-19 and became the 83rd COVID-19 patient in Vietnam. She was treated at Ho Chi Minh city-based Cu Chi field hospital and discharged from the hospital on April 4.
She shared her feelings that despite her age of 50, she felt lucky to be treated in Vietnam where she received devoted care from Vietnamese doctors and medical staff. Therefore, she does not hesitate to donate plasma to contribute to treating patients less lucky than her.
“This is the way I say thanks to Vietnam, my second homeland,” she said.
According to Ms. Kelly, many of her foreign friends, who are living in Ho Chi Minh city and were cured from COVID-19 by Vietnamese doctors and nurses, pledged to donate plasma.
People who can donate plasma are those who are aged 18-65, contracted COVID-19 and were treated successfully and isolated 14 days after being discharged from hospital.
Those who want to donate plasma can contact the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases at the hotline 1900 3228 or doctor Vu Minh Dien at 0914.341910./.
