Leaders of foreign businesses are still optimistic about Vietnam's economic prospects, although an increase in the number of new cases of COVID-19 has resulted in new social distancing measures, especially in the central city of Da Nang.

Mr. Kenneth Atkinson, founder of international audit firm Grant Thornton and Vice Chairman of the Tourism Advisory Board (TAB), said that economists are warning that the new outbreak of COVID-19 could cast black shadows on earlier positive forecasts about Vietnam's short-term economic growth.
However, Mr. Atkinson said that he is not too worried because he believes that Vietnam will remain an attractive destination for international companies.
"The way Vietnam coped with the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic brought people a lot of confidence in the country and that will speed up the economic recovery process," he said.
Despite living and working under tightened disease control measures, most foreigners in Da Nang believe that the government of Vietnam has taken prompt and effective action to stop the COVID-19 pandemic in both the first and present outbreaks.
Ms. Eva Monique McDonough, a Canadian citizen teaching English in Vietnam, said that she is less worried upon learning that the community in which she lives is very compliant with the government's regulations.
“These rules are set to keep us safe,” she said.
A website designer also agrees that the government of Vietnam is doing its best to prevent a new outbreak of the pandemic, and that the current measures are very important to prevent the pandemic./.
