On November 11, Do Thong, Deputy Standing Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People’s Committee inspected the destruction caused by super storm Haiyan, as well as the mitigation of torrential rain after the storm in Hai Ha district.

Statistics showed that as of the afternoon of November 10, all 877 ships with 2,579 labourers had sheltered safely, 25 fish cages had been strengthened, 21 families in dangerous areas had been evacuated, 81 labourers at 70 oyster fishing grounds had been taken to the mainland, and 331 weak houses with 1,196 people had been relocated.
As of the morning of November 11, the storm had damaged 297 houses and structures, 1 ship, 13 hectares of sugarcane, and 69 hectares and maize. So far no human fatalities have been reported.
At present, water levels in rivers are on the rise.
During his working visit, Mr. Thong praised Hai Ha district for its active prevention efforts before the storm, asking it to continue to ensure safety for people at risk of landslides, and to monitor river water levels.
He also urged to district to release water if torrential rain occurred to ensure safety for people, minimise losses in aquaculture, and promptly rescue any fishermen in trouble from the storm./.
