US laboratory expert honored by Vietnam's Ministry of Health

(CPV) - Director of the laboratory program at the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) in Vietnam, Mr Kyle Bond, on December 12th received an honorary commemorative award “for the health of the people” from the Vietnam’s Ministry of Health (MOH) for his extraordinary dedication and public service.

Only foreigners who have made exceptional contributions to the health system in Vietnam are eligible for this distinguished award.

“During his time in Vietnam, Kyle Bond has achieved more than just helping laboratories receive international accreditation. He has strengthened the laboratory system by also supporting the MOH in developing national laboratory policies and plans and increasing the knowledge and skills of laboratory staff at national institutes, universities, and hospitals,” said MOH Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Xuyen.

After six years of improving the quality of laboratory services in Vietnam, his support has truly made a long-term impact on the health system and the health of the Vietnamese people.

With support from the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS relief program, Kyle Bond worked closely with the Vietnam Administration for Medical Services and other partners to develop the number of internationally accredited laboratories jump to more than thirty in the past few years, of which US CDC supported a third of those./.
