HCMC aims to become ASEAN healthcare center by 2030

The Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) People's Committee has just approved the Project "Developing the Ho Chi Minh City healthcare system to become an ASEAN healthcare center from now until 2030 and the following years" with the goal of building an advanced, modern healthcare system that approaches world-class technology.

Particularly, HCMC plans and invests in developing the infrastructure of the healthcare sector to ensure compliance with the general planning and aims to become a regional healthcare center.

At the same time, it develops a high-quality healthcare human resource training system establishes and develops the HCMC Medical - Pharmaceutical Industrial Park. Along with that, it develops modern, specialized techniques to meet the disease model of the people and the health care demands of the people, building a network of specialized care from end-level hospitals to grassroots healthcare on a regional scale.

Regarding specific targets, from now until 2030, it strives to achieve an average life expectancy of 77 years, of which healthy life expectancy is at least 68 years; the ratio of doctors is 23 doctors/10,000 people, the ratio of nurses is 40 nurses/10,000 people, the ratio of hospital beds is 42 beds/10,000 people; the total fertility rate is 1.6; each person is examined and screened for diseases once a year, each person has an electronic health record.

According to the HCMC People's Committee, the implementation of the project will help realize the goal of becoming an "ASEAN Healthcare Center." This will bring great socio-economic efficiency, contributing to improving the health, stature, longevity and quality of life of the people.

At the same time, the formation of specialized medical centers will contribute to the development of medical tourism. HCMC is not only a destination for medical examination and treatment for domestic people, but also for other countries in the region.

In addition, the formation of the ASEAN Healthcare Center will help support and improve the medical capacity of localities in the Southern region, aiming to reduce the burden on end-line hospitals in the city and improve the quality of health care for people.

Currently, the city has 131 hospitals, five bedless medical centers, 310 health facilities at grassroots levels, over 8,000 private clinics, and more than 10,000 pharmaceutical businesses. Its out-of-hospital emergency care system comprises the 115 Emergency Center and 42 satellite stations./.
