Ho Chi Minh City receives nearly VND140 billion to support COVID-19 prevention

Since August 15, Ho Chi Minh City has received money and essential support goods worth nearly VND140 billion to serve people facing difficulties due to COVID-19, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee has reported.

According to the committee, the money and goods have been distributed to field hospitals, COVID-19 treatment hospitals, 22 districts and Thu Duc City, charity kitchens, the city’s police, the city Command and the Thu Duc City Military Command, with nearly VND129 billion.

Along with the distribution of support resources, the receiving center has also organized coordinated activities to support local authorities and people in the epidemic situation and achieved many remarkable results. Notably, the total number of welfare bags delivered to districts and Thu Duc City reached more than 2 million. The Ho Chi Minh City Welfare Center has provided 5,439 travel permits to organizations and individuals to participate in charity work, support isolation areas, hospitals and people in difficult circumstances.

The center has mobilized more than 20,000 accommodation owners to exempt or reduce rent for hundreds of thousands of rooms with an amount of nearly VND200 billion; and carried out 178 models and solutions to help ensure social security in the city such as charity kitchens, free goods stalls and rice distribution.

According to the assessment of the center for receiving and supporting essential goods to serve people facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Ho Chi Minh City, the free supermarket is one of the good solutions that have proven their efficiency during the city's social distancing period./.
