After more than seven years of implementing Directive 13 of the Party Central Committee Secretariat on “Strengthening the Party's Leadership in Forest Management, Protection and Development,” Lao Cai province has witnessed significant positive changes. The number of violations of forest protection and development laws has drastically decreased, forest resources have been effectively utilized, and awareness about forest management, protection and fire prevention has been greatly enhanced.

To ensure the forest planting targets are met, localities in the province have intensified public awareness campaigns, helping residents understand the economic value of forests. This has encouraged active participation in forest planting for production, thus increasing income. Additionally, the forestry sector and seed production facilities have proactively forecasted market demand, ensuring both the quantity and quality of forest seedlings supplied to tree planters.

One key aspect of Directive 13 is the integration of forest protection and development with the support of production development, improvement of living standards, income growth and social welfare for local residents, particularly ethnic minorities in mountainous and border areas. This is seen as a driving force for Gia Lai province’s forestry sector, where many ethnic minorities rely on forests for their livelihoods and income, playing a crucial role in forest protection and development.

Despite certain challenges, practical approaches suited to local conditions have helped maintain the precious green cover of Gia Lai's forests. Building on these achievements, Gia Lai continues to focus on protecting forests, increasing livelihoods and income for residents, making forests a valuable resource for sustainable development.

Tuyen Quang is one of the leading provinces in the country in terms of forest coverage, with a rate of over 65%. Leveraging this strength, the local government has implemented various appropriate policies and mechanisms to develop the forestry economy, with the cultivation of large timber forests being a fundamental solution.

To enhance the productivity and quality of planted timber forests for processing and export, the province has recently collaborated with several organizations to establish a model for intensive large timber forest cultivation, aligned with sustainable forest management. This model has been implemented on more than 40 hectares, with the participation of 11 households. Residents have been trained in forest planting techniques following the standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Tuyen Quang aims to increase the area of large timber forests to 89,000 hectares by 2025, with an annual productivity of 22 cubic meters of timber per hectare.

Protecting and sustainably developing forests is a vital and urgent task. The efforts of localities have made significant contributions to forest protection and development, helping to safeguard the environment, boost economic growth, and improve the livelihoods of the people./.
