During the seminar, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Duoc said that Long An is a province in the southern key economic region, located at the gateway from Ho Chi Minh City to the provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, with international borders and international border gates and seaport. During the past term, the province gained average economic growth of about 9.11% per year. Particularly in 2020, although affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the province reported a 5.91% growth rate, double the national growth rate.

With the aspiration of maintaining its leading position in the Mekong Delta by 2025 and striving to become a well-developed province in the southern key economic region by 2030, Long An province is urgently making provincial planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
To achieve the set target, Long An is oriented to form a high-tech economic zone associated with building a smart city to attract and incubate high-tech projects. This strategic plan and long-term vision is expected to create a breakthrough, maximize the efficiency of resources, innovate the growth model, prioritize strategic investors, and attract investment in high technologies such as electronics, telecommunications, information technology associated with the development of the digital economy; focusing on attracting investment to form logistics centers in potential areas, thereby creating a solid foundation for Long An to develop rapidly and sustainably in the new period.
Speaking at the seminar, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh said that Long An has enough opportunities and advantages to develop a high-tech economic region, taking science and high technology as the foundation.
He suggested that the province should continue to consult with experts, scientists, businesses and people to build orientations for the development of a smart high-tech economic region. “For industrial development, the province needs to identify key and advantageous industries for development, focusing on the development of high-tech industries, supporting industries, and logistics services,” he added.
Regarding agriculture, he urged the province to develop based on the application of high technology, going on to say that it needs to continue to reform institutions, successfully build digital authority, focus on improving the investment environment, and promptly solve difficulties and problems for investors and businesses, especially in the current period affected by the COVID-19 pandemic./.
