The election of the new General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee is instrumental in sustaining the stability and continuity of the country leadership process while creating a chance for the CPV to continue affirming its comprehensive leadership, ensuring sustainable development and prosperity for the nation, and upholding the legacies of late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
So said Dr Nguyen Hong Son, Chairman of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in Japan, in a recent interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency's resident correspondent in Tokyo.
He held that amid global volatility, keeping economic stability, improving the investment climate, and promoting international cooperation are critical for Vietnam to maintain and raise its position in the international arena.

Besides, Son noted, building the Party and political system strong is an indispensable task. To ensure stability and sustainable development, the CPV needs to continue training and nurturing a contingent of talented, moral, and visionary cadres. The unanimity and determination of the whole political system will form the cornerstone for inheriting and bringing into play the values for which late General Secretary Trong, a visionary leader staying steadfast in the CPV’s core values, laid the foundation.
The election of President To Lam as General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee is crucial to the upholding of these legacies, he opined.
Talking about the priorities in Vietnam’s foreign policy that General Secretary and President To Lam has specified, he said this viewpoint reflects the continuity and development of the country’s traditional diplomatic strategies while outlining new directions for fostering Vietnam’s standing and role in the world.
The enhancement of relations with neighbouring countries and strategic partners will not only help Vietnam boost political trust and the intertwining of interests but also create a solid foundation for economic, trade, and security cooperation. Meanwhile, promoting contributions to the maintenance of regional and global peace and stability not only helps build up the image of Vietnam as a peace-loving country but also improve stability and sustainable development in Southeast Asia and the world at large, Son continued.
Elevating multilateral diplomacy is also one of the strategic priorities that should continue to be stepped up. The promotion of Vietnam’s role in regional organisations like the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, and large multilateral forums like the United Nations will help raise the country’s position while creating opportunities for it to joining in the formation of international principles and norms.
By showing itself as an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam will not only demonstrate its engagement in international conventions and commitments but also affirm that it will continue helping to resolve such global issues as climate change, food security, and sustainable development, according to Son.
With regard to the fight against corruption and negative phenomena, the expatriate intellectual cited General Secretary and President To Lam’s statement that the combat will continue relentlessly and without off-limits zones or exceptions.
He perceived that with strong directions from high-ranking leaders, the corruption prevention and control in Vietnam will reap more positive results, and the statement is a clear demonstration of the Party leader’s commitment to maintaining discipline and transparency in the political system and society.
With the determination and right directions, Vietnam is able to surmount challenges and obtain enormous achievements in the coming time, Son added./.
