President Ton Duc Thang was one of Vietnam’s most outstanding leaders. He was born on August 20, 1888 to a family of well-to-do peasantry Ong Ho Isle, My Hoa Hung village, Dinh Thanh district, Long Xuyen province (now My Hoa Hung commune, Long Xuyen City, An Giang Province).

Devoting all his life to the Vietnam Revolution and the movement of international workers and communists, comrade Ton Duc Thang honorably received the Gold Star Medal – the highest possible award in the country, the Lenin Medal of the Soviet Union, Soukhe-Bator Medal from Mongolia and many other noble awards.

After a period of serious illness, old age and weakness eventually determined his fate and he passed away on March 30, 1980 in Hanoi and was buried in Mai Dich cemetery./.
