World Press Photo Exhibition in Hanoi

The World Press Photo Exhibition will take place at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts at No.42 Yet Kieu street, Hanoi, from June 16th to July 6th.

The event will be held by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam, in coordination with Vietnam Journalists Association, as part of activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Netherlands-Vietnam diplomatic ties.

It features 130 photographs of famous stories, selected from the 61st World Press Photo Contest. The winning photos were selected from over 73,000 photos taken by 4,548 photographers from 125 countries.

The exhibition was displayed in 90 major cities around the world and attracted over four million visitors. The event in Vietnam is part of its around-the-world itinerary in 2018. Other cities in Asia will also host the exhibition, such as Singapore, Tokyo, Kyoto and Macao.

Authors and award-winning works of the World Press Photo Contest that the Vietnamese public have already known are Phan Thi Kim Phuc by photographer Nick Ut (1972); Son Doong cave by German photographer Carsten Peter (2010) and "The pink choice" depicting the life of gay couples in Vietnam by Maika Elan - Nguyen Thanh Hai (2013).

The winners of the 2018 World Press Photo Competition were announced in Amsterdam in April, with the highest prize awarded to the Venezuelan photographer Ronaldo Schemidt./.
