Xoan singing to receive recognition as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO

According to Phu Tho provincial People’s Committee, a ceremony to receive the UNESCO recognition of Xoan singing as an intangible cultural heritage of the humanity will take place at Lai Len Shrine, Viet Tri city, on February 3rd.

The recognition realizes international community support for Phu Tho provincial efforts to implement the commitments of heritage protection over the past six years.

Phu Tho provincial People’s Committee has promulgated a plan on the implementation of key mission on the preservation and promotion of the heritage in 2018.

They include continuing to teach and practise Xoan singing for key singers of Xoan singing and folklore singing clubs in the province; promoting the dissemination of the heritage value association with Hung Kings worshipping belief in Phu Tho province on mass media; improving the portal on the singing in both Vietnamese and English; promoting the restoration of customs related to the singing; continuing to bring the singing to school; researching to publish books and CDs to teach the singing and open training courses for teachers of music to teach the singing at schools.

In addition, activities to celebrate the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day will be held, together with activities to honour artists; promote the singing among clubs and teach the singing in the community, especially for young people and teenagers; complete the restoration of relic sites association with the singing and supplement objects for the exhibition house on the arts at the Lai Len Shrine, Kim Duc commune, Viet Tri city./.
