Adjustment to Ho Chi Minh city’s metropolitan region plan approved

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved adjustments to the plan for the construction of Ho Chi Minh city’s metropolitan region by 2030, with a vision to 2050.

The plan aims to develop Ho Chi Minh city into a dynamic and sustainable urban area with an important position in Southeast Asia; a modern economic area and big economic centre of the whole country and the region.

It will also be developed into a centre of commerce-finance, scientific research-service, hi-tech and specialized industry, culture, education-training, science-technology and high-quality health care in the region. 

As planned, the southern hub will cover the whole administrative boundary of its and seven neighboring localities of Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Long An, Dong Nai, and Tien Giang with a total area of about 30,404 square kilometres.

By 2030, the population is forecast to reach around 24-25 million people, including around 18-19 million urban population, 6-7 million rural population; and about 18-19 million workers. The urbanization rate is about 70-75%./.
