APEC workshop promotes MSME access to digital economy

APEC workshop on enabling MSME access to the digital economy was held in Ho Chi Minh city on September 12th as a sideline activity of the SMEs Ministerial Meeting and related events.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Jillian DeLuna from the US Department of State said that on the basis of strengthening the awareness of policy makers on MSMEs, the seminar will discuss suitable solutions to help enterprises join the digital economy. She believed that the digital economy will create opportunities for participation in global value and supply chains, bringing equal and sustainable development for MSMEs.

Delegates discussed the reality, opportunities and obstacles in the digital economy that MSMEs may face, and work which APEC and ASEAN are doing to encourage MSMEs to participate in the digital economy.

The workshop also assessed key factors to enhance digital skills, discussed principles to promote the digital economy, and researched initiatives to encourage the development of contents, application and domestic services to ensure socio-economic value for the digital economy.

In addition, it also addressed challenges to reduce impacts on private enterprises and MSMEs in promoting digital economic access, discussed the main difficulties in accessing the digital economy and potential solutions to improve the digital ability and facilitate access to information among APEC members./.
