Binh Thuan dragon fruit promoted in Indian market

(CPV) - A seminar to promote the consumption of dragon fruit, a major product of the southern province of Binh Thuan, has been held in New Delhi, India.

The significant trade promotion event aims to expand exchange and business cooperation between agricultural traders of Vietnam and India.

It was co-organized by the Binh Thuan Department of Industry and Trade, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Embassy of Vietnam in India, and Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India.

In his speech at the seminar, Vietnamese Ambassador to India Ton Sinh Thanh emphasized the efforts of organs of the two countries and organizers; this is the first promotion program for Vietnam’s dragon fruit held in India and the success of the event is expected to open new era for trade relations between the two sides, especially agricultural products and food, which provide jobs for millions of households.

He said Vietnam - India trade turnover rose more than 40% in 2017 and about 50% in the first 8 months of 2018. If the growth is maintained, the turnover will exceed the target of USD15 billion set by leaders of the two countries before 2020.

Director of the Binh Thuan Department of Industry and Trade Do Minh Kinh said the seminar offered opportunities for companies of Binh Thuan and India to meet, trade and seek partners for business cooperation, investment and improvement of competitiveness and integration. 

Binh Thuan has climate and ground suitable to agricultural production with an area of more than 270,000 hectares. Notably, the locality has the largest dragon fruit production area in Vietnam, covering over 27,000 hectares. With an annual output of over 600,000 tons, Binh Thuan dragon fruit is provided to domestic consumption and shipped to more than 16 countries and territories./.
