Coffee export value rises 25.6% in first quarter

(CPV) – Coffee export volume in the first quarter of 2017 reached an estimated 449,000 tons, valued at USD1 billion, down 5.4% in volume but up 25.6% in value over a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Average export coffee price in the first two month this year was USD2,262 a ton, a year-on-year rise of 32.3%. Germany and the US continued to be the two biggest consumers of Vietnam’s coffee in the period, with market shares of 17% and 15.6%, respectively.

Markets witnessing sharp growth in export value of the commodity were Belgium (2.3 folds), the Republic of Korea (79.3%), the US (60%), Algeria (50.1%), Spain (33.6%), Germany (28.8%), the UK (27.4%), Japan (21%) and Italy (20.2%).

For the domestic coffee market, price fluctuation in March 2017 followed the increasing trend of the world market. Compared to the end of February 2017, the price of coffee Robusta in the Central Highlands rose by VND2,000-VND2,200 per kilogram to VND46,000-46,900 kilogram./.
