Export growth targets 8% by 2020

Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved the project increasing the competitiveness of Vietnam’s export commodities by 2020, toward 2030.

Accordingly, by 2020, the added value of export commodities like agricultural products and major seafood will increase 20% on average; gradually raise the proportion of agricultural and seafood products in markets with developed economies such as the EU, Japan and the Republic of Korea, and strive to achieve average commodity export growth of 8% a year.

Prioritized commodities to improve competitiveness include agricultural and aqua-cultural products like rice, coffee, rubber and pepper and processing industry products like garments and textiles, footwear, wooden products, telephones and components. 

Major solutions proposed include reorganizing production, transforming export methods, shifting the structure of export products in the direction of increasing the proportion of processed products, assisting enterprises with market information and trade promotion, and providing advising information and legal assistance related to export and import activities.

Export enterprises will be assisted to innovate equipment, technology and production processes which meet the quality and standards of the market and apply hi-tech./.
