Forestry exports bag USD8.49 billion

(CPV) - Export value of major forestry products in Jan-Nov 2018 reached an estimated USD8.49 billion, a year-on-year rise of 16.6%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Vietnam Administration of Forestry.

Of this, export of wood and wooden products was valued at USD7.22 billion, a year-on-year increase of 15.63%.

Trade surplus of key forestry products in the 11 months posted USD6.39 billion. With this, export value of the commodity is expected to hit USD9.3 billion for the whole of 2018.

During the period, Vietnam’s forestry products were mainly shipped to five markets: the US, Japan, the EU, China and the Republic of Korea, making up about 87.33% of the total.

According the administration, as of November 20th, the country planted 202,872 hectares, including 12,857 hectares of protective and special use forest, and 190,015 hectares of production forest.

Meanwhile, import value of wood and wooden products was estimated at USD2.1 billion, a year-on-year rise of 6.17%. Major import markets include China, the US, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Chile, Germany, Brazil, New Zealand and France; making up 61.5% of the total value./.
