Hanoi leads FDI capital attraction in 2018

(CPV) - Hanoi continues to lead in FDI attraction in Vietnam in 2018 with more than USD7.5 billion, a 2.18-fold rise from the previous year. This is also the highest-ever rate after 30 years of realizing foreign investment attraction policy.

The information was revealed by Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Investment Tran Ngoc Nam at a regular press meeting of the city Party Committee on December 25th.

In the 2016-2018 period, Hanoi draw nearly USD14.05 billion, equaling to 2.25 fold of the 2011-2015 period. From the beginning of the year, the city licensed 616 new projects with a total registered capital of USD5.03 billion and saw 157 ongoing projects registering an additional capital of USD827.69 million.

So far, the northern hub has lured USD36.55 billion of FDI capital, in which wholly foreign-invested projects made up 80%.

Japan is the biggest foreign investor in Hanoi with about USD10.6 billion, followed by Singapore, USD6.9 billion, and the Republic of Korea, USD5.5 billion, Nam said.

Real estate absorbed the most FDI capital with 34.8% of the total, followed by processing and manufacturing 24.4%, information and communications 8.72%, and construction 6.29%, he added./.
