This year, Bloomberg’s Top 50 looks at people in business, entertainment, finance, politics, and technology and science whose accomplishments were particularly noteworthy.

According to the news, Vietjet Air forecasts that the number of passengers it serves this year will soar 40 percent, to 24 million, as it begins tapping into Vietnam’s growing middle class by aggressively expanding overseas routes.

“Thao wants to take on regional giants such as Indonesia’s Lion Air and Malaysia’s AirAsia Group Bhd. Vietjet’s scheduled international capacity is expected to grow as much as 70 percent in 2018, according to the CAPA Centre for Aviation, and the airline has become one of Asia’s largest customers of Boeing’s 737 Max, doubling an order it announced two years ago during a visit to Vietnam by then-President Barack Obama,” Bloomberg said.

Earlier, Forbes also listed the Vietjet Air founder among the 100 most powerful women in the world. This is the second time the billionaire woman made the list.

Vietjet, founded by Thao in 2011, was also named by Forbes as one of the 40 most valuable brands in Vietnam in 2018.

The airline now operates 385 flights daily, with more than 100 routes covering destinations across Vietnam and international destinations such as Japan, Hong Kong (China), Singapore, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan (China), Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Cambodia./.
