Vietnam - South Africa to lift annual trade turnover to USD2 billion

Receiving new South African Ambassador to Vietnam Mpetjane Kgaogele Lekgoro on June 21st Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh city People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong confirmed that Vietnam always considered South Africa one of its leading partners, and a gate for accessing the African market.

During the reception, Mr. Phong appreciated the South Africa - Vietnam cooperation, adding that in 2018 the two sides are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship.

“In terms of economic and trade cooperation, Vietnam and South Africa are determined to raise the two-way trade turnover to USD2 billion while promoting cultural, educational and tourism exchanges,” he said.

According to Mr. Phong, Ho Chi Minh city always attaches great importance to promoting multilateral relations with South Africa. It has sent diverse working delegations to South Africa and set up diplomatic relationship with South Africa’s Johannesburg city. “Ho Chi Minh city always creates favourable conditions for foreign businesses, including South African businesses,” he said, adding that he believed the relationship between Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh city, and South Africa would continuously develop.

Ambassador Mpetjane Kgaogele Lekgoro pledged to do his utmost to promote the cooperative relationship between the two countries, especially the links between the two peoples.

Thanking Ho Chi Minh city for making favourable conditions for South Africa to open its Consulate General in the city, Ambassador Mpetjane Kgaogele Lekgoro expressed his hope that the city will facilitate activities which aim to promote trade and economic relations between the two countries./.
