The event was co-organized by the Hoang Sa island district People’s Committee, Da Nang Historical Science Association, Da Nang city Party Committee Commission for Popularization and Education, Da Nang city Department of Culture and Sports, Da Nang city Department of Home Affairs, and Da Nang city Museum.

The Hoang Sa Exhibition House covers a 1,296-square-meter site at the corner of Hoang Sa and Phan Ba Phien streets, Man Thai ward, Son Tra district. It is in a 4-storey building with a total floor area of 1,834 square meters with a total investment of VND40 billion from the city’s budget.

A lot of valuable materials and documents on victims and their relatives who used to live in Hoang Sa island district, bibliographies of the State of Vietnam and other nations showcasing Vietnam’s sovereignty over the islands, and the daily life of the Vietnamese people on the district have been introduced.

The activity aims to collect, manage and further provided sources for Hoang Sa Exhibition House, thus reaffirming the strong voice of the Party, State, Government and Vietnamese people over the “hot issue”.

According to Mr Bui Van Tieng, Head of Da Nang Historical Science Association, in the last few years, a lot of organizations, Vietnamese people and overseas Vietnamese have voluntarily donated and presented treasured documents and materials to Hoang Sa authority.

For example, Mr Tran Thang who lives in the US, presented an atlas including 150 ancient maps produced by the Western nations and Vietnam between 1618-1859, clearly demonstrating Vietnam’s sovereignty over the islands; some maps (printed between 1626-1980) displaying the Southernmost point of China as just Hainan island.

Some living witnesses who used to live and work on Hoang Sa islands before 1974 have presented documents and materials reaffirming the nation’s sovereignty.

Meritorious Artist Chi Trung, on behalf of the authors, handed over the original version of the documentary film “Missing the island” to representatives of Hoang Sa Islands.

On this occasion, the Da Nang city Party Committee Commission for Popularization and Education presented a map of Hoa Long ward, Hoa Vang district, former Quang Nam-Da Nang province, displaying Hoang Sa island district as part of Hoa Long ward. While Song Thu Corporation also gave a simulation of a Vietnam Coast Guard boat.

The organizing board hopes to receive more documents and materials from organizations and individuals inside and outside the national boundaries for Hoang Sa Exhibition House in the period of July 3rd to December 31st, 2016, leading up to a reviewing ceremony on January 19th, 2017 - the anniversary of the day the Chinese administration illegally deployed forces occupying Hoang Sa islands.
