Overseas Vietnamese in Laos welcome Lunar New Year of Dog

The General Association of Overseas Vietnamese (GAOV) in Laos organized an event to welcome the Lunar New Year of the Dog for overseas Vietnamese in Laos on January 28th.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Duy Trung, President of GAOV, said that for Vietnamese people, especially overseas Vietnamese, the Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) is a spiritual moment, a good time to meet, exchange and tighten solidarity among the community. It is also an opportunity to educate young generations to understand and maintain good cultural traditions of the nation. 

According to him, in 2017, GAOV built and developed the apparatus from general association, provincial association, municipal association to branches.

In spite of still being difficulty, the overseas Vietnamese community in Laos has always participated in activities towards the homeland such as raising funds to support disaster victims, Agent Orange victims, and encourage soldiers on duty on Truong Sa Archipelago and contribute, to fostering and strengthening the special solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Laos.

On behalf of the Party, State and people of Laos, Mr. Vilayvong Buthdakham, President of the Laos - Vietnam Friendship Association, highly appreciated the important contribution of the Vietnamese community in Laos, not only in the fight for the liberation of Laos, but also in the cause of construction, protection and development of society and economy of Laos today.

He called upon the overseas Vietnamese community to continue to make more contributions to the development of Laos, and to continue as an important bridge in maintaining and fostering the special solidarity between the two nations.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Nguyen Ba Hung stressed the overseas Vietnamese community in the world developed stronger in 2017, including over 100,000 Vietnamese people working and studying in Laos.

Over the past years, the overseas Vietnamese community in Laos made new achievements in the life, deeply and effectively integrating into Lao society.

The ambassador thanked the Party, government and local administrations at all levels and Lao people for creating conditions for overseas Vietnamese in Laos to have a sustainable life, and believed that in 2018, the Vietnam-Lao relationship will continue to develop more firmly.

The participants enjoyed traditional dishes, listened to famous songs about lands and people of Vietnam and Laos, and danced Lamvong./.
