Over the past three years, ethnic minority people have cultivated rice production area of 7,300 hectares, gaining average productivity of 6 tons per hectares, an increase of more than 700 kilograms per hectare compared with normal rice seedlings.

In the 2017-2018 winter - spring season, farmers planted rice on over 1,780 hectares, with productivity of over 6.2 tons per hectare, helping farmers get an additional VND4.3 million profit per hectare compared to the common rice in the same condition.

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the support by authorities and related agencies has helped ethnic minority people change their old production habits which have low productivity. As a result, the support has contributed to remarkably reducing free migration, deforestation, and food shortages between crops.

Apart from giving 100% of rice seedling support for ethnic minority people, the province has mobilized different resources to assist them with over 1,000 tons of fertilizers, and organize training courses and transfer technology to the farmers.

Ethnic minority farmers in six districts will continue to be assisted with some 600 tons of rice seedlings for cultivation on 1,280 hectares in the 2018 summer - autumn crop. Meanwhile, by implementing different programs for poverty reduction, the province will earmark capital to give fertilizer, technology and water support for the farmers’ production./.
