The road linking Hang Hoc and Bo Kieng villages in Chieng Hac commune, Yen Chau district, was completed in 2017 with an investment of over VND9 billion. Being one of the traffic constructions benefiting from Program 135, it has a length of 7 kilometres, facilitating the travel of over 170 families with 948 people, thus improving conditions for local residents’ trade of agricultural products.

Lu Van Chung, Head of the Yen Chau district Board of Ethnic Minorities, said that 15 extremely disadvantaged communes in the district benefited from Program 135, the program on building new style rural areas, as well as other policies set for ethnic minority-inhabited, remote and border areas. “The combination of different programs has helped deal with shortages of capital, especially those for traffic constructions, and boost production,” he added.

Under Program 135, from 2015 to 2017, over VND397 billion was spent building 360 irrigation, traffic, water supply, power, cultural house, market and medical constructions.

Over the past 20 years, Program 135 has brought about outstanding changes in Son La province’s socio-economic infrastructure, especially among ethnic minority people. Together with it, the support for local residents of high quality seedlings, animals and production models has helped increase their living standard, according to Nguyen Vu Dien, Deputy Head of the provincial Committee of Ethnic Minorities./.
