Explaining their reasons for signing Phuong, a club representative said it was partially based on the rapid growth currently underway in Asian football with Vietnam leading the way in that development.

He added that the club will create favourable conditions for Phuong to display his talent.

Upon addressing the ceremony, Phuong expressed his hope that he will be able to adapt to the new environment and prove himself to the club after enduring several failures in his previous experience at overseas clubs.

The Vietnamese forward believes that he will definitely succeed in Belgium.

Originally founded in 1924, Sint-Truiden Club were purchased by Japanese company DMM.com in 2017. During the 2018-2019 season, Sint-Truidense recruited five Japanese players including Takehiro Tomiyasu, Wataru Endo, Takahiro Sekine Kosuke Kinoshita, Daichi Kamada, and goalkeeper Daniel Schmidt.

According to website Transfermarkt, the estimated market value of the club is approximately EUR27.5 million.
