Facing a lot of pressures from PVF during the first half, in the fist minute of additional time, striker Cong Minh opened the game for Dong Thap team from a “beautiful” free kick.
In the second half, students of head coach Bui Van Dong doubled the score by centre midfielder Van Tien from outside of the 16m50 area.
Right after that, Dong Thap team has taken a backward step in protecting achievement, thus creating a chance for striker Pham Ngo Tan Tai from PVF to narrow the score to 1-2 by his head. However, it was not enough for head coach Nguyen Manh Cuong to defend his champions title.
The winning team pocketed VND50 million in cash prize, while the loser will get VND30 million in cash prize.
It is for the sixth year in a row that the Thai Son Nam Company has offered to be the main sponsor of the tournament.
The final round of the Championship lured 12 teams, playing in two groups via a round robin format in the group stage.
According to Vietnam Football Federation, the event is a good chance for it to select talented players for the national team, who will compete at the coming ASEAN U16 Championship later this year.
