(CPV) - Mr Miguel Rodrigo, newly-appointed head coach of the Vietnam national futsal squad, has announced the names of players gathering in preparation for the upcoming 29th SEA Games.

The 17-footballer list featured familiar faces who are members of the national team, helping the nation qualify, for the very first time, to the round of eight at the 2016 FIFA Futsal World Cup in Colombia.

At the recent national futsal tour, players Dinh Thuan (goalkeeper), Quoc Nam, Xuan Du, Trong Luan, Minh Tri, Thai Huy, Van Vu and Van Huy have showed their good manners.

16/17 members come from Thai Son Nam and Thai Son Bac clubs, the two “big names”, in which Thai Son Nam successfully defended its championship. The other player, Ho Van Y, a goalie from Hoang Thu Da Nang team had well improved, becoming a pillar for the U20 national futsal squad.

The list has not been finalized, as it should gain at least 3 right after the end of the 2017 Asia Futsal Club Championship and the 2017 East Asian Futsal Club Championship this July.

Members of the instruction unit are all from Thai Son Nam club.

As scheduled, the national squad gathered in Ho Chi Minh city on June 28th, then flew to Thailand for a one-week training course on July 10th, having three friendly matches with Chonburi club (July 11th), Thai Port club (July 3rd), and Bangkok BTS club (July 16th).

Miguel Rodrigo is a globally known Futsal coach. Born in 1970 in Valencia, Spain, he played futsal for five years before beginning his career as a coach at the age of 21.

He used to coach futsal clubs in Russia, Italy and Spain, and led Japan’s national team from 2009-2015. His depth of tactics and formations guided Japan to win the AFC Futsal Championship in 2012 and 2014./.
