Vietnamese midfielder wins “Best Goal” award at 2019 Asian Cup

Vietnamese midfielder Nguyen Quang Hai has beaten nine other competitors to win the “Best Goal” award at the recent 2019 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Quang Hai's superb freekick into the Yemeni net wins the highest votes.

The 2019 Asian Cup finals wrapped up with the first-ever title for Qatar and a total of 130 goals scored over 51 matches (an average of 2.54 goals per match).

The three-day poll on the AFC’s website for the best goal of the tournament concluded on February 6th, seeing the victory secured by Vietnamese midfielder Quang Hai for his superb left-footed free-kick into the Yemeni net in the Group D match day three.

Specifically, Hai’s goal received a total of 105,319 votes, equal to 49% of the votes, by far beating the second-place Wu Lei of China (against the Philippines in Group C match day two) with 78,647 and Mohanad Ali of Iraq (against Yemen in Group D match day two) with 9,144 votes.

Hai’s amazing free-kick was of great significance as it helped to secure the triumph for the Vietnamese team, putting Park Hang-seo’s side through to the Round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams./.
