(CPV) - As many as 30 tourist spots in Hanoi; including popular attractions: Ngoc Son Temple, Ba Kieu Temple, Vietnam National Museum of History, Vietnam Museum of Revolution, Quan Su Pagoda and Opera House; will ban smoking from October.

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Nhan, head of Hoan Kiem district’s media office, said the model is being implemented from September to December this year at selected temples, shrines, pagodas, museums, churches, theatres, restaurants and hotels with three-star status and above across the district.
As planned, “non-smoking” plates will be installed at the popular sites this month and there will be reminders and sanctions on the spot if local people or visitors intentionally violate.
In addition, the Hoan Kiem People’s Committee will apply the non-smoking model at 12 restaurants and 11 hotels in the district.
The campaign aims to provide visitors with a smoke-free tourism environment and prevent them from experiencing the negative health impacts of cigarette smoke, thus allowing them to enjoy their stay in Hanoi.
Earlier, the district launched a project to ensure food safety and smoke-free environment at restaurants and hotels for the 2017-2018 period. In 2017, 92 restaurants and three-star and higher hotels registered to join the project, while in 2018, 89 business establishments registered.
As a rule, smoking at prohibited places will be fined from VND100,000 to 300,000 while restaurants which do not follow smoking ban letters or signs will be fined between VND3 million and VND5 million./.
