Myanmar’s trade turnover with ASEAN countries hits USD9.6 billion

Myanmar’s trade turnover with member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) hit USD9.6 billion in the 2016-2017 fiscal year, which ended in March.

Of the total, Myanmar’s export turnover to the regional trade partners reached USD3.09 billion, while its import value was USD6.51 billion, according to Myanmar’s Ministry of Commerce.

Thailand was Myanmar’s biggest trade partner in ASEAN, with turnover of USD4.27 billion. It was followed by Singapore with USD2.96 billion, Malaysia with USD980 million, Indonesia with USD827 million, Vietnam with USD494 million and the Philippines with USD56 million.

However, Myanmar’s trade value with Brunei, Laos and Cambodia was below USD3 million.

Data showed that in the 2015-2016 fiscal year, Myanmar’s trade with the ASEAN countries was worth USD10.43 billion, down from USD12.6 billion in 2014-2015.

Myanmar’s main goods shipped to the regional nations were agricultural products, seafood, minerals and industrial goods while the country imported consumer goods, electronic products, materials and automobile components./.
