The forum, conceived by President Emmanuel Macron, is intended to highlight the importance of international institutions in helping resolve conflicts, avert wars and spread prosperity.

The event bringing together world leaders and international organizations, will discuss security, terrorism, climate, green energy, global governance, cyberthreats and other pressing issues of the 21st century.

President of France Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke at the Paris Peace Forum’s plenary session. After the session, the work of the forum will continue in different sections attended by a number of heads of states and non-governmental organisations.

From conflict and economic downturn to disease and climate change, global problems require “more than ever” a strengthening of international cooperation, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told world leaders at the event.

Over 120 projects to address global challenges will be presented at the forum, which President Macron said aims at promoting concrete actions toward peace, and should be repeated every year.

The Paris Peace Forum followed a ceremony in the French capital to mark the centennial of the end of World War I./.
