Brian Hook who is currently the State Department's director of policy planning, is expected to oversee implementation of the Trump administration's entire Iran policy.

Mr. Hook will lead a newly established Iran Action Group to coordinate the State Department's pressure campaign on Iran, Mr. Pompeo told a news conference.

"The Iran Action Group will be responsible for directing, reviewing and coordinating all aspects of the State Department's Iran-related activity, and will report directly to me," Pompeo said.

Washington announced earlier this year it would withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal and has once again imposed sanctions on Tehran, calling the country a destabilizing influence in the region.

Brian Hook is an American lawyer and government official. As of 2017, he serves as Director of Policy Planning and Senior Policy Advisor to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

During the George W. Bush administration, Hook served as Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs; Senior Advisor to the US Ambassador to the United Nations; Special Assistant to the President for Policy in the White House Chief of Staff’s office; and as Counsel, Office of Legal Policy, at the US Justice Department./.
