Festival to re-enact mid-autumn atmosphere celebrations of Vietnamese people in Japan

The highlight of the Vietnam Festival “Hello Saitama” Saitama Prefecture, Japan from September 1 -3 will be the re-enactment of Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations of Vietnamese people in Japan, featuring star-shaped lanterns, lion dances, and moon cakes.

The festival will be sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as it is one of the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties this year.

The information was released at a press conference on th festival held at Vietnam Embassy in Japan on August 2.

The festival, the first of its kind held in Saitama, will showcase star lanterns, lion dance performances, and the flavors of mooncakes. More than 60 booths will be set up to introduce the unique Vietnamese cuisine, including popular dishes that have become an integral part of Japanese culinary culture, such as pho, banh mi (baguette), noodle, spring roll, banh xeo (crispy rice pancake) and coffee.

Moreover, folk games like shuttlecock, tug-of-war, and traditional art performances such as Chau van (Vietnamese ritual singing) will appear for the first time at the Vietnam Festival.

Vietnamese singers, including Hong Nhung, Quang Dung, and Ngo Kien Huy, along with Vietnamese rock band KURROCK based in Japan, are expected to impress audiences with art performances on this occasion.

Speaking at the press conference, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Pham Quang Hieu, the festival is expected to help Japanese people to experience the unique culture of Vietnam through food, music, and traditional arts in order to better understand the beauty of the country, and at the same time showcase the friendliness of Vietnamese people, contributing to deepening the relations between the two countries.

The event is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of Japanese and Vietnamese people in Japan.

Saitama is home to one of the biggest Vietnamese communities in Japan with over 40,000 people./.
