Ly Son’s economy continues to develop well

Over the past few years, the Party Committee, army and people of Ly Son Island district in the central province of Quang Ngai worked hard to overcome difficulties and focus on economic restructuring towards boosting agricultural development, in combination with building new-style rural areas.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Vy, Secretary of the Ly Son district Party Committee, said that average growth rate of agriculture increases 4.31% a year and agricultural production value is expected to reach VND898 billion in 2020. Its two key products are fresh garlic estimated at 3,016 tons and fresh onions at 8,143 tons.

The highlight is average production value per hectare of agricultural land reaching VND846 million, up VND200 million compared to the previous years. Specifically, Ly Son garlic has just been granted the Certificate of Geographical Indication Registration by the Ministry of Science and Technology.

For development of the fisheries sector, production value is estimated to reach more than 762 billion in 2020. Of this, the value of the fish catch is estimated at VND722 billion and the value of aquaculture at nearly VND40 billion, up 43.1% a year. The district now has 2 fishing unions and 69 ships with 845 workers,

After more than 4 years of realizing Resolution 01-NQ/TU of the Quang Ngai Party Committee on marine economic development, Ly Son’s economy continued to develop well, the sector accounting for a high proportion in economic structure; while service and tourism infrastructure was gradually completed and trade-service developed rapidly; changing the face of the district and improving the lives of local people.

Forest plantation and protection were attached importance. Ly Son actively allocated local budget to carry out projects of forest plantation and ornamental plants in 2019-2023.

Many areas that are only rocky like Thoi Loi Mountain or places without fresh water such as An Binh Island have been irrigated land and covered with green trees, contributing to raising the total area of forested land to 115 hectares with coverage of over 10%.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Vy affirmed that policy of the Ly Son district Party Committee focuses on developing agriculture sustainably in combination with building new-style rural areas.

The district timely concretized the policy into programs and plans to implement and integrate many sources of capital with a total cost of more than VND303 billion. So far, all three communes in the district have been recognized as new-style rural areas. Meanwhile, Ly Son is completing procedures to be recognized as a new style rural district in 2020./.
