Ho Chi Minh City: CPI in May increases 0.22%

Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City in May rose 0.22% from the prevous month, in which 2 out of 11 commodities saw the price decrease while other groups had price increase with the highest rise beloing to transport (2.2%), according to the city General Statistics Office (GSO).

Regarding the specific price movements of a number of commodity groups compared to the previous month, the GSO said that restaurants and catering services had a price index increase of 0.03%; in which food increased by 1.29% and foodstuff decreased by 0.24% with the lowest decrease belonging to fresh, dried and processed vegetables with 1.4%, followed by cattle meat, by 1.16%, due to abundant supply.

Along with the increasing trend, the housing, electricity and water, fuel, and construction group increased by 0.003%; in which the highest increase was domestic electricity by 1.73% due to the weather with many hot and sunny days.

The traffic group increased by 2.2% with fuel by 5.09% after 3 times of adjusting petrol prices on May 4, May 11 and May 23.

On the downward trend, group of gas and other fuels decreased by 5.34%, of which gas price decreased by 29,000 to 30,000 VND per can. The culture, entertainment and tourism group dropped by 0.25%; in which the largest decrease belonging to flowers and ornamental plants with 3.99%.

With the above indicators, CPI in May increased by 2.3% over the same period last year; and by 2.32% comapred to December 2021.

The GSO said that the gold price index this month increased by 0.94% over the previous month while the US dollar price index in May rose by 0.09%./.
