Ho Chi Minh City marks Thai National Day

Chairman of the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City Dinh Khac Duy said that Thailand is one of Vietnam’s close neighbors, a member of the ASEAN community, and the two countries' relations have developed well in all fields, including politics, security, national defense, economy and trade.

He made the statement during a meeting held by the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City and the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations, on December 6, to mark the 95th Anniversary of the National Day of Thailand (December 5).

Regarding economic cooperation between the two countries, Mr. Duy said that in 2021, two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Thailand reached USD18.8 billion, up 18% compared to the same period in 2020. In the first nine months of this year, trade turnover between the two countries reached USD16.1 billion, up 17.2% over the same period last year. The two countries set a goal to soon reach a bilateral trade turnover of USD25 billion by 2025.

According to Mr. Duy, over the past years, the Vietnam - Thailand Friendship Association has actively coordinated with the Consulate General of Thailand and the Thai Business Association in Ho Chi Minh City to carry out many effective people-to-people exchange activities, in which many scholarships have been awarded to poor and studious pupils and students. Up to now, the Vietnam - Thai Scholarship Fund has awarded more than 580 scholarships with VND750 million to students in Ho Chi Minh City.

Thai Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City Wiraka Moodhitaporn affirmed that cultural and social relations, especially at the people-to-people level, are the foundation for the development of cooperative relations between Thailand and Vietnam. She also emphasized that people-to-people understanding and connection will create favorable conditions for promoting trade, investment and business exchanges to help reach USD25 billion of two-way turnover, as the target set by the leaders of the two countries.

On this occasion, the Consulate General of Thailand in Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with the Vietnam-Thailand Friendship Association in Ho Chi Minh City awarded 20 scholarships to students of the Thai Language Department of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Ho Chi Minh City./.
