Ho Chi Minh City supports UK businesses and universities implement effective cooperation activities

The Vietnam - UK strategic partnership is developing positively, in line with the spirit of the joint statement between the two countries on strategic partnership, Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, said during his reception for UK's international education ambassador Steve Smith, on November 21.

During the meeting, Mr. Duc said that in the context that the pandemic being under control in the two countries, the two sides need to continue promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially optimizing cooperation mechanisms such as the Policy Dialogue at the level of Deputy Ministers of Defense and the Vietnam - UK Joint Committee on economic and trade cooperation.

According to Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc, towards the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the UK (1973 - 2023), the two sides need to coordinate in organizing meaningful and diverse activities in many fields such as trade promotion, investment, tourism promotion, organization of cultural events and people-to-people exchanges.

He praised the organization of the Wilton Park International Workshop with the theme of addressing skills training challenges in ASEAN, which he said hoped to provide deeper insight into the challenges facing economies, share success stories, as well as offer solutions for the future.

As the center of many aspects of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City has always actively implemented cooperation relations with the UK, especially in the field of education. Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciates the UK's strengths and experiences in the field of education and wishes to receive the help, experience sharing, cooperation and investment of experts, universities and educational institutions from the UK, especially the demand for high-quality human resources, as well as strengthening cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the UK in the field of education.

As the UK is strong in education with top universities in the world, he expressed his hope that in the coming time, the cooperation relationship between Ho Chi Minh City and the UK would be further strengthened through delegation exchanges, investment promotion, and educational cooperation between businesses and the schools of the two sides; and that more and more UK experts, universities and training institutions are investing in Ho Chi Minh City to help impart experience and training to the city's workforce. “The City Government and professional agencies will support UK businesses and universities to implement effective cooperation activities,” he added.

Mr. Steve Smith thanked Ho Chi Minh City for supporting the organization of the Wilton Park International Workshop, confirming that the British Government attaches great importance to cooperation with Vietnam.

He noted that Vietnam is a developing economy and is one of five countries with which the UK wants to promote cooperation in education. Appreciating the change and development of Ho Chi Minh City over the past time, Mr. Steve Smith said that the UK also wants to promote educational cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City./.
