He made the statement while hosting a reception for Mr. Jaya Ratnam, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam, and Pang Te Cheng, Singaporean Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City, on November 5.
Ambassador Jaya Ratnam expressed gratitude to Secretary Nguyen Van Nen for the meeting and noted that in his over three years in Vietnam, he has witnessed remarkable growth in the relationship between the two countries. However, he expressed his belief that there is still ample potential to elevate the partnership to a new level. He noted that Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore share many similarities and complementary strengths, which offer valuable opportunities to deepen cooperation. Ho Chi Minh City has long been an economic leader in Vietnam, and Singaporean businesses are continually drawn to the city.
Consul General Pang Te Cheng proposed focusing future collaboration on sustainable development and innovation. He suggested that Ho Chi Minh City take advantage of opportunities created by Resolution 98 to integrate these goals into areas like waste management, converting waste into renewable resources, and attracting semiconductor companies. He also emphasized that both countries have a longstanding history of collaboration in human resource development and expressed interest in further strengthening this area.
Secretary Nguyen Van Nen congratulated Ambassador Ratnam on a successful term, which has contributed to the advancement of relations between the two nations.
In response to the proposals from the Singaporean Ambassador and Consul General, he agreed that both sides have favorable conditions and unique advantages that make for effective cooperation and swift growth.
He affirmed the importance of cooperation in human resource training, which is a crucial aspect of this partnership. In line with administrative reform, particularly in public policy and digital transformation, Ho Chi Minh City has chosen Singapore as a source of expertise and knowledge sharing.
“With its position as the nucleus of Vietnam’s key economic region, Ho Chi Minh City is connected to the development projects in the region. Thus, the city is ready to collaborate on joint programs with Singapore to foster growth in these strategic economic areas,” said Mr. Nen./.
