Ho Chi Minh City further increases cooperative activities with India

On June 19, a high-ranking delegation of Ho Chi Minh City led by Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, arrived in India, officially starting a working visit to this country from June 19-23.

The visit aims to pave the way and create a framework to further promote cooperation activities between Ho Chi Minh City and India, thereby contributing to strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, identifying cooperation potential, and updating India's policies in relation to Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular.

The year 2022 is an important year in the relationship between Vietnam and India when the two countries celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (1972 - 2022).

It is expected that during this visit, the delegation from Ho Chi Minh City will greet the senior leaders of India; attend the inauguration ceremony of Uncle Ho statue in New Delhi; and sign an agreement to establish friendly and cooperative relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Mumbai in order to create a cooperation mechanism in areas of mutual interest.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, India has been one of the three comprehensive strategic partners of Vietnam since 2016. Over the past 50 years, Vietnam-India relations have continued to be consolidated, strengthened, and increased. Despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, in the past two years, the two countries have tried to carry out many online talks, high-level phone calls and bilateral cooperation mechanisms.

In terms of economic aspect, India is currently one of the 10 largest trading partners of Vietnam. In 2021, trade turnover will reach more than USD13.21 billion, an increase of more than 36.6% compared to 2020. By the end of the year, in 2021, India's total registered investment capital ranks 25th out of 140 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 313 projects and over USD910.4 million in investment capital./.
